‘Routine sortie’: IAF on what led to An-32 aircraft crash in Assam that killed 5

The Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that five personnel were killed after an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed during a routine sortie near Jorhat, Assam, on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Prashant Singh, Shubham Kumar, Jitendra Sharma, Khemaram Kumawat and Danish Alam. According to the IAF, the aircraft crashed outside the airstrip during the sortie. Centre appoints Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth as next Chief of Army Staff

The Centre on Saturday named Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff, with effect from June 30, 2026. Commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 after graduating from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Lt Gen Seth has served in the Indian Army for nearly four decades. He will take over from Upendra Dwivedi, who assumed the Army chief’s post in June 2024. Read full article

Why you will need to shell out more for electricity in Delhi

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has approved a higher Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (PPAC), leading to increased electricity bills for consumers in BSES-served areas from July. The surcharge has risen from 14.5% to 17.9% for BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and from 11.7% to 17.4% for BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), while Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) has seen only a marginal increase. The hike follows a rise in power procurement costs during April due to higher electricity demand amid rising temperatures. Read full article
