Bryce sisters shine as Scotland script history with first-ever Women's T20 World Cup win

Scotland created history on Saturday by registering their first-ever win in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, beating Ireland by 40 runs at Old Trafford.

Led by captain Kathryn Bryce, Scotland scored 161/5 in their 20 overs. Ireland struggled in the chase, losing wickets regularly and were bowled out for 121 in 19.1 overs.Scotland’s innings was built around a 106-run partnership between sisters Kathryn Bryce and Sarah Bryce. Sarah missed out on a half-century, falling for 49 to Arlene Kelly.Kathryn continued to hold the innings together, reaching her fifty and helping Scotland finish with a competitive total.Ava Canning was Ireland’s most successful bowler with three wickets as Scotland ended on 161/5.Ireland’s chase got off to a poor start when Alana Dalzell was dismissed in the opening over. Amy Hunter (39) and Orla Prendergast (33) were the only batters to make notable contributions, but Ireland never managed to build enough momentum.The match swung firmly in Scotland’s favour in the 13th over when Kirstie Gordon picked up three wickets. She dismissed Rebecca Stokell, Leah Paul and Alice Tector in the same over.Katherine Fraser also played a key role with figures of 3/19 as Scotland began their 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a win.Kathryn Bryce was named player of the match for her innings of 60 and figures of 2-19. Other notable contributors were Sarah Bryce with 49 while Kirstie Gordon and Katherine Fraser took three wickets each.
