New World No. 1! Sree Charani dethrones England's Linsey Smith to top Women's T20I bowling ranking

India’s young left-arm spinner Sree Charani has become the world’s No. 1 ranked bowler in Women’s T20Is after a superb run in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup. The 21-year-old climbed to the top of the ICC rankings after taking 10 wickets in just three matches, making her the tournament’s leading wicket-taker so far.Charani’s rise has been one of the biggest success stories of the World Cup. Having made her international debut a little over a year ago, she has quickly established herself as a key member of India’s bowling attack. Her recent performances against the Netherlands and South Africa helped her overtake England spinner Linsey Smith at the top of the rankings. The Indian spinner’s biggest contributions came in consecutive matches. She picked up four wickets against the Netherlands in Leeds before following it up with a three-wicket haul against South Africa in Manchester. Those match-winning displays earned her enough ranking points to become the highest-ranked bowler in women’s T20I cricket. While Charani moved to No. 1, England’s Charlie Dean climbed to second place after taking five wickets in her first three World Cup matches. Former top-ranked bowler Sophie Ecclestone also made progress, moving up to fourth position. The batting rankings remained largely unchanged at the top, with Australia’s Georgia Voll holding on to the No. 1 spot. Beth Mooney stayed second, while India’s Shafali Verma moved up to sixth and captain Harmanpreet Kaur entered the top 10.In the all-rounders’ rankings, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews continued to lead the table ahead of New Zealand’s Melie Kerr. Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu rose to third, while Pakistan captain Fatima Sana and Ireland’s Orla Prendergast also made gains. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp enjoyed a strong week as well, climbing to ninth after her impressive performance against India.
