PM Modi calls on President Droupadi Murmu amid Cabinet reshuffle buzz

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, fueling speculation about a possible reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers.indiaThe meeting took place shortly after the civil investiture ceremony for the Padma awards and comes amid growing political buzz in New Delhi over a potential cabinet rejig, as cited by PTI.Recent appointments of several Union ministers to key organisational roles within BJP have intensified speculation about a possible cabinet reshuffle. On May 28, BJP national president Nitin Nabin appointed Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra as the party’s Delhi unit chief. Malhotra, 62, also serves as Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and continues to hold both positions.Similarly, Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary was appointed president of the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit in December last year, further fueling expectations of changes in the Union Council of Ministers.Earlier in the day, veteran BJP leader from Kerala George Kurian resigned from the Union Council of Ministers following the end of his Rajya Sabha term.Kurian, 65, served as Minister of State for Minority Affairs as well as Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Similarly, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh, whose Rajya Sabha term also ended on June 21, was not renominated to the Upper House.Singh, who had represented Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha since August 2024, also serves as Minister of State for Food Processing Industries.
