With India, South Africa and Bangladesh all tied on four points after three matches, separated only by net run rate, the contest carried major significance in the race for the semifinals. Australia, meanwhile, sit on top of Group 1 with four wins from four matches. The first reprieve came in the third over when Juairiya Ferdous top-edged a sweep off Shree Charani. The ball ballooned towards short fine leg and hung in the air long enough for Yastika Bhatia to run across from short fine leg and launch into a dive. She got a finger to it but could not complete the catch.India then missed another chance in the next over. Juairiya pulled a short ball from Renuka Singh straight towards deep midwicket, where Radha Yadav was stationed. The chance came at a comfortable height and Radha got both hands to it, but the ball slipped out. For a fielder of Radha’s reputation, it was an unusual miss and came on the back of the two catches she had dropped off Marizanne Kapp during India’s defeat to South Africa. The misses did not stop there. In the fifth over, Sobhana Mostary drove hard at a Shree Charani delivery and sliced the ball towards cover. Nandani Sharma moved quickly to her left and dived, getting both hands to the ball, but could not complete the catch. One ball later, Nandani was again in the action. Juairiya attempted a slog sweep and the top edge flew towards short third. Nandani covered the ground rapidly and threw herself into a dive, but the ball did not stick, handing Bangladesh yet another life. The sequence left India frustrated as four chances went down in the space of 11 deliveries. The missed opportunities helped Bangladesh recover from early pressure and finish the powerplay on 40/1 after six overs. The dropped catches also continued a worrying trend for India. Against South Africa in their previous match, Radha had put down two chances offered by Marizanne Kapp, who went on to score an unbeaten 81 and play a key role in a six-wicket win,.
