NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s much-awaited India debut was a mix of excitement and disappointment. The 15-year-old became the youngest cricketer to play for India in international cricket, but also ended up with an unwanted record during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday.The left-handed batter became the first Indian to be dismissed stumped on his T20I debut.

Fearless start from the teenager

Sooryavanshi looked completely unfazed by the occasion. He scored 14 runs off just 10 balls, striking two sixes in an entertaining cameo.The youngster announced himself in style by smashing England fast bowler Jofra Archer for a towering six over the wicketkeeper’s head. He followed it up with another clean hit over the ropes off Josh Tongue.The teenager’s entertaining knock came to an end in the fifth over.Looking to continue his attacking approach, Sooryavanshi stepped out against spinner Will Jacks but was beaten by the flight of the ball. England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler completed a simple stumping, ending the youngster’s innings on 14.With that dismissal, Sooryavanshi entered the record books as the first Indian batter to be stumped in his maiden T20I innings.Players dismissed stumped on T20I debut

Despite the early dismissal, it was a landmark day for the Bihar batter.At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. He broke the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar made his debut at 16 years and 205 days.
