Tarun Chugh meets Amit Shah days after taking oath as Rajya Sabha MP, flags Punjab's law and order crisis

BJP National General Secretary and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh on Saturday said he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and raised concerns over Punjab’s deteriorating law and order situation, cross-border terrorism and drug smuggling, while expressing confidence that the BJP would usher in a ‘new chapter’ in the state after the 2027 Assembly elections. In a post on X, Chugh shared a photograph with Shah and said, “After being elected as a Rajya Sabha MP, I paid a courtesy visit to the country’s esteemed Union Home and Cooperation Minister, the Honourable Shri @AmitShah ji, and sought his guidance and blessings.”He said the meeting included discussions on Punjab’s security challenges.“On this occasion, an in-depth discussion took place on serious issues such as Punjab’s deteriorating law and order situation, Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, cross-border drone and drug smuggling, gangsterism, and the security of common citizens. At the same time, I apprised him in detail of the facts related to Punjab’s current circumstances and the sentiments of the people, and urged him to take effective steps to ensure peace, security, and good governance in the state.Chugh alleged that Punjab was facing multiple crises under the Aam Aadmi Party government.“The sacred land of Punjab—of saints, mahatmas, gurus, and martyrs—is today grappling with grave challenges like drugs, gangsterism, crime, cross-border sponsored terrorism, and a crumbling law and order situation due to the novice, inept, and failed government of the Aam Aadmi Party. The people of the state aspire for a secure, prosperous, drug-free, and development-oriented Punjab.”The BJP leader also expressed confidence about the party’s prospects in the state.“I am fully confident that after the formation of a Bharatiya Janata Party government in 2027, under the leadership of the revered Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi ji and the guidance of the Honourable Shri @AmitShah ji, a new chapter of good governance, security, development, and public trust will be established in Punjab.”He added, “Inspired by the ideals of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji, the Bharatiya Janata Party is steadfastly moving forward with the resolve to once again make Punjab happy, secure, prosperous, and drug-free.”Concluding the post, Chugh said, “The affection, guidance, and blessings of the Honourable Amit Shah ji lend even greater strength and energy to this resolve.”The post comes as the BJP sharpens its political focus on Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with the party continuing to target the AAP government over law and order, narcotics and cross-border security issues.
