CJP protest: Passports of people involved in violence may be cancelled, says report
Police vows strict action against those involved in violence

NEW DELHI: People found to be directly involved in the violence during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests could face cancellation of their passports, news agency PTI reported citing Delhi Police sources on Thursday. They said investigators are using CCTV footage, video recordings and other technical evidence to identify those who were directly involved in rioting and violent incidents during the protest. The sources added that authorities could initiate proceedings to cancel the passports of individuals found to have actively participated in the violence, in line with the relevant legal provisions. The latest police action follows violence that broke out near Jantar Mantar last night during protests over the NEET paper leak issue.According to Delhi Police, inspector Nand Kishor Singh was injured after he was allegedly attacked by a group of protesters while walking from his parked vehicle to his duty point near Jantar Mantar.“There were around 4,000 to 5,000 people gathered there. They were raising anti-police slogans and anti-government slogans. I thought they were students and I was going to perform my duty,” PTI quoted Singh saying.“They assaulted me with lathis, sticks, stones and whatever sharp objects they had in their hands. I sustained injuries and somehow managed to escape. I was in uniform when they attacked me,” he added. The clashes between protesters and police left several police personnel injured, according to the force. Delhi Police has since launched an investigation to identify those allegedly involved in the assault on officers as well as damage to public property, saying action is being taken against those responsible.
