Guard's accidental gunshot kills man visiting bank in city

NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old customer visiting a Union Bank branch in southwest Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan to update his Aadhaar card was killed Tuesday after the security guard’s gun went off accidentally.The deceased, Manish Kumar, a farmer, was a resident of Issapur village. He is survived by his elderly parents and five older sisters. Police have arrested the security guard, Vinod Kumar, 53, an ex-serviceman.Police said the incident took place around 10.30am when Vinod was loading cartridges into his 12-bore double-barrel gun.The firearm allegedly discharged accidentally, and the bullet struck Manish in the back

Vinod later told police that he reported late for duty Tuesday and by the time he started loading the cartridges, customers and bank employees had already started pouring in.

The sound of the gunshot sent customers and the staff into panic. People rushed towards the entrance after hearing the loud bang and found Manish lying in a pool of blood.Police received a PCR call around 11.06 am alerting them about the incident. The caller informed cops that the guard’s firearm had gone off and a man had been shot and was critical. By the time police reached the spot, Manish had already been rushed to RTR Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
