Professional dancer behind the viral videos
Although many viewers first encountered him as a cleaner, Miller is also an experienced professional dancer.He is the founder of the Fifth Dimension Initiative, an organisation that delivers workshops for dance schools and training programmes.According to People, Miller has also choreographed A Chorus Line at Scotland’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival and is scheduled to perform in the production himself on August 23.His background in dance explains the confidence and precision displayed in the routines that have become synonymous with the Games.
‘I was hired to do a job’
Appearing on Australian breakfast programme Sunrise, Miller explained that he simply wanted to embrace the role he had been given.“Well, you know what, I was hired to do a job and I thought, ‘You know what, we’ll do it full send. We’ll send it full,'” he said, referring to his decision to commit fully to entertaining the crowd while carrying out his work.When Sunrise reporter Katie Brown joked that his routine was “giving Cardi B,” Miller responded with humour.“That’s my inspiration, actually,” he joked.“I looked at it and I thought that’s exactly what the Commonwealth needs, Cardi B. That’s the one.”
‘A surreal 24 hours’
Speaking to People after his videos went viral, Miller admitted he had never anticipated becoming one of the tournament’s breakout stars.“It had been a surreal 24 hours,” he said, reflecting on the sudden attention.Despite his profession, Miller explained that he is naturally far more reserved than many people might assume.“Although it is my job to dance, sing, choreograph… I am actually more introverted in my day-to-day life,” he said.“It’s my husband who is the extroverted one — which I know is hard to believe from these videos going viral.”Miller also said he had been touched by the reaction from both spectators inside the arena and people following the clips online.“I’ve had some really lovely interactions,” he said.“Forever grateful and appreciative for all the love.”In a separate interview following the viral success, Miller described the worldwide response simply as “wild.”
