India enjoyed another memorable day in athletics at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, highlighted by a one-two finish in the men’s F57 shot put as Soman Rana clinched the gold medal and Shubham Juyal settled for silver. The celebrations continued in the men’s triple jump, where Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran added silver and bronze respectively to India’s medal tally.

Competing in the men’s F57 shot put, Soman Rana produced a season-best throw of 13.40m to secure the gold medal. Fellow Indian Shubham Juyal also registered a season-best effort of 13.28m, earning the silver medal, while Cameroon’s Cedric Idriss Lekezo Azamdzi finished third with 12.57m.Shubham had briefly led the competition after recording 13.08m on his second attempt, guaranteeing India at least a silver medal before Soman stepped up for the decisive throw. The Army man responded in style, producing the best throw of the competition to complete a dominant Indian one-two finish.Soman Rana’s inspiring journeySoman’s gold medal was the latest milestone in an inspiring sporting career. An Indian Army personnel, he was once a promising boxer, finishing fifth at the 2005 National Boxing Championships, before a landmine explosion in 2006 changed the course of his life. He later switched to para athletics and steadily established himself among India’s best throwers.Before Glasgow, Soman had already won bronze at the World Para Athletics Championships and silver at the 2022 Asian Para Games. He has now added a Commonwealth Games gold medal to his growing list of achievements.

Chithravel and Selva Prabhu shine in triple jump

India’s success extended to the men’s triple jump, where Praveen Chithravel claimed the silver medal with a best leap of 16.58m. Competing alongside him, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran secured the bronze medal after producing a personal effort of 16.52m, marking the first major international medal of his career. The gold medal went to Jamaica’s Jordan Scott, who topped the field with a jump of 16.72m.
