KL Rahul dropped a simple chance at first slip

KL Rahul had a disappointing moment on the field during India’s three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo.Leading the side in the absence of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul dropped a simple chance at first slip, giving Sri Lanka XI opener Ravindu Rasantha a valuable lifeline.The missed opportunity came in the 26th over when spinner Kuldeep Yadav found the outside edge of Rasantha’s bat. KL Rahul moved to his right and tried to take the catch with one hand, but the ball hit his palm and slipped out. Rasantha was batting on 43 when he was dropped.

India paid the price for the dropped catch.

Rasantha made the most of his second chance and went on to score 71 before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Manav Suthar.Suthar finally gave India the breakthrough after Rasantha mistimed an attacking shot and was caught, bringing an end to a well-made innings.KL Rahul is leading the Indian side after regular captain Shubman injured his right ring finger during Thursday’s practice session. The BCCI confirmed that Gill would miss the opening day of the warm-up match as a precaution.“Captain Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right ring finger during India’s practice on Thursday. As a precautionary measure, he will not take the field on Day 1 of the warm-up game against SLC XI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” BCCI said.“KL Rahul will lead the team in Gill’s absence,” the Indian cricket board said.India are playing the three-day warm-up match as preparation for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The first Test will begin in Galle on August 15, while the second Test will be played in Colombo from August 23.
