Australia vs Bangladesh 1st Test Live Score: Tanzid Hasan scored his maiden Test century in only his second match in the format as Bangladesh took control of the first Test against Australia in Darwin.

Tanzid reached his hundred with a single off Nathan Lyon after facing 188 balls. He had played a patient and determined innings but fell soon after reaching the milestone. He lofted Lyon towards long-off, where Mitchell Starc took the catch.

Tanzid builds strong partnerships

Tanzid played a key role in Bangladesh’s strong batting effort. He added 102 runs with Mominul Haque for the second wicket and then shared a 93-run partnership with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for the third wicket.

Shanto also played an important innings, scoring 84 from 126 balls.

Bangladesh take 153-run lead

Bangladesh resumed the second day at 96-1, still 102 runs behind Australia after dismissing the hosts for 198 on the opening day.

By stumps, Bangladesh had reached 351-6, giving them a 153-run lead with four wickets still in hand.

Shanto was one of three Bangladesh batters dismissed in a four-over period after Australia took the second new ball.

Mehidy and Hasan take Bangladesh to stumps

Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 32, while Hasan Mahmud was unbeaten on 13. The pair put on an unbeaten 43-run partnership for the seventh wicket to take Bangladesh safely to the end of the day.

Bangladesh showed the same discipline with the bat that helped them bowl Australia out for 198 on the opening day.

Australia’s experienced attack struggles

Australia’s experienced bowling attack has so far struggled to make a big impact against Bangladesh.

Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon, Australia’s senior bowling group, have been unable to stop the visiting batters in the warm and tropical conditions of northern Australia.

Bangladesh eye big first-innings lead

Bangladesh, ranked ninth in Tests, are playing their first Test in Australia since 2003. Their performance has put them in an unexpected position of strength against the world’s top-ranked Test side.

The two-Test series in Australia’s Top End is the start of a busy 12 months for the hosts, who are scheduled to play 20 Tests, including tours of South Africa, India and England.
