'Sheesh Mahal' a dark chapter of corruption, says Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday dubbed “Sheesh Mahal”, a name given by BJP leaders to the former official residence of her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal, a “dark chapter of corruption” and asserted that the truth behind it can no longer be hidden. No immediate reaction was available from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over Gupta’s attack on Kejriwal. The BJP titled 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow in Civil Lines, where Kejriwal lived as the Delhi chief minister from 2015 to 2024, as “Sheesh Mahal” alleging corruption in its renovation and costly interiors and household goods kept there.Gupta, in a statement, said the probe into the matter is already underway, with a detailed inquiry being ensured through the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).“Every rupee of public money will be accounted for. Strict action will be taken against those found responsible,” she said, adding that her government remains committed to transparency, accountability and upholding public trust.Gupta, in a sharp attack on Kejriwal after PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh posted a video of “Sheesh Mahal”, said that the truth, “long concealed”, is now out in the open for all of Delhi to see.In the video, Singh took a tour inside the bungalow detailing its costly interiors and various household goods.“This is not just a building,” Chief Minister Gupta said, “but a living proof of corruption, arrogance, and a betrayal of public trust — a symbol of moral decline”.Raising questions over the renovation cost of the bungalow, she said the work, initially pegged around Rs 8 crore, reportedly escalated to nearly Rs 62 crore, a jump indicative of “grave financial irregularities”.She said Delhi people should watch the video and draw their own conclusions.“People have every right to know how their money was used by those they elected,” the chief minister said.
