NEW DELHI: Tiger Woods is once again stepping away from golf after a car crash in Florida led to his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. The incident has forced him to miss the Masters for the second year in a row, as he focuses on his health and legal situation. Despite pleading not guilty, the episode has raised fresh concerns about his well-being and future. After the accident, authorities reported that Woods showed signs of impairment and had prescription painkillers on him. His car had hit a trailer and flipped, though thankfully no one was injured. He admitted to taking medication earlier and being distracted just before the crash. During sobriety tests, officers observed difficulty in movement, which Woods partly linked to his long history of surgeries.Following the incident, Woods made it clear he is prioritising recovery. “This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” he said. He also added, “I’m committed to take the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally.”

Tiger Woods’s ongoing struggles

This isn’t the first time Woods has taken a break after a crash. A similar incident in 2009 also led him to step away from the game. Injuries have been a constant challenge in recent years, including multiple back and leg surgeries that have limited his appearances since 2024.Now 50, Woods is not only pausing his playing career but also stepping back from his role with the PGA Tour. His absence will be felt both on and off the course, given his influence on the sport. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp voiced his support, saying, “My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support. With legal proceedings ongoing and recovery ahead, Woods faces another uncertain phase, balancing personal struggles with the hope of a comeback.
