Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka struck a calm and reassuring tone after his side’s disappointing defeat, urging patience and belief as the IPL 2026 season unfolds. Taking to X, Goenka reminded fans that “this is a long season” and backed his captain and team to “respond with strength,” while also thanking supporters who turned up at the Ekana Stadium.

His message came on a night where LSG were outplayed by the Delhi Capitals, who pulled off a remarkable six-wicket win despite a shaky start. Chasing a modest 142, DC were reeling at 26 for 4 before Sameer Rizvi produced a composed and match-winning unbeaten 70. Batting with maturity beyond his years, Rizvi stitched together a decisive 119-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs, who played a steady supporting role. For LSG, it was a match that raised more questions than answers. Their batting faltered early, managing just 141 after being put in. Tactical decisions, including the reshuffling of the top order by captain Rishabh Pant, did not pay off. The innings never found momentum against a disciplined DC bowling attack led by T Natarajan, Kuldeep Yadav, and Lungi Ngidi. Even when LSG had DC under pressure early in the chase, they could not capitalise. Rizvi’s calculated assault slowly took the game away, exposing the lack of cutting edge in LSG’s bowling during the middle overs. Yet, Goenka’s words reflect a broader perspective. One defeat does not define a campaign. For a team still trying to find its rhythm and balance, belief from the top can be crucial. As the tournament progresses, LSG will hope to correct their tactical missteps and rediscover their intensity. The season, as Goenka pointed out, is far from written.
