Assam assembly elections 2026: Crorepati candidates including CM in fray but richest name will surprise you

As Assam gears up for the 2026 assembly elections, a glance at candidate affidavits shows a strong presence of crorepatis in the fray — including chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. However, while the CM figures among the wealthiest contenders, he is far from the top of the list, with several candidates declaring significantly higher assets.Topping the chart is Congress candidate Rahul Roy with assets exceeding Rs 261 crore, followed by AIUDF leader Badruddin Ajmal at over Rs 226 crore. The list also includes names from across party lines, underscoring the dominance of high-net-worth candidates in the state’s electoral landscape.
