Who is Vishvanath Suresh? Meet 21-year-old Indian boxer who knocked out World No. 1 Sanzhar Tashkenbay

NEW DELHI: Indian boxer Vishvanath Suresh delivered a stunning performance at the Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, shocking the boxing world with a knockout win over reigning world champion and world No. 1 Sanzhar Tashkenbay. The victory marked a major milestone in his fast-rising career and secured him a place in the semifinals.

Who is Vishvanath Suresh?

Hailing from Chennai, Vishvanath, now 21, has quickly grown into one of India’s most exciting boxing talents. He entered 2026 as the national champion after a dominant run at the Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships, where he defeated Rishi Singh 5-0 in the final.His journey began with a strong youth career, winning gold at both the IBA Youth World Championships and the Asian Youth Championships in 2022. He continued to build on that success with a bronze at the Asian U-22 Championships in 2024 and another gold at the Federation Cup in 2025.Now competing at the senior level, Vishvanath has shown he can take on top opponents. His biggest moment came in Ulaanbaatar, where he stunned top-ranked Tashkenbay with a knockout, proving his ability against elite competition.Known for his speed, sharp technique, and smart tactics, he has become a tough competitor in the flyweight category. Training at the Army Sports Institute and backed by the Boxing Federation of India, he is now seen as a strong medal contender.From a successful junior to a rising international name, Vishvanath’s journey highlights his rapid growth and signals a bright future ahead for Indian boxing.
