‘Hyderabad powering India’s GCC growth’: Telangana IT minister at Mahindra University policy centre launch

Mahindra University on Tuesday announced the launch of its Economic Policy Centre, aimed at advancing research and policy dialogue on key economic issues, with Telangana IT minister D Sridhar Babu highlighting Hyderabad’s growing dominance in the global capability centre (GCC) ecosystem.Speaking at the inaugural event themed “Hyderabad: Powering India’s GCC Ecosystem”, Babu underlined the role of state policy in attracting global firms. “Hyderabad has emerged as an attractive destination for global capability centres, driven by its strong infrastructure, progressive policy environment and deep talent pool. As global firms look to build resilient and future-ready operations, it is critical for us to continue strengthening our ecosystem through innovation, research and industry collaboration. Platforms like this Economic Policy Centre play an important role in shaping ideas that will power the next phase of India’s transformation,” he said.He added that Telangana is well positioned to lead the next phase of digital transformation, stressing the importance of collaboration between academia and policymakers.Mahindra University vice-chancellor Dr Yajulu Medury said, “The Economic Policy Centre will help drive meaningful conversations on issues that matter to India’s growth story, beginning with Hyderabad’s emergence as a leading GCC hub. We are creating an ecosystem where academic rigor meets real-world application by ensuring that our research contributes directly to the nation’s socio-economic blueprint.The event saw together policymakers, economists and industry leaders discuss factors driving Hyderabad’s rise as a GCC hub, including policy support, infrastructure, investment inflows and availability of skilled talent.Dr Nilanjan Banik, who heads the centre, said, “The launch of the Economic Policy Centre comes at an important time, as India deepens its role in global value chains and capability-led services. Our first event on GCCs will bring together diverse perspectives to understand how policy, talent, and infrastructure can strengthen India’s competitiveness.”Development economist Dr Amir Ullah Khan emphasised the need for closer public-private collaboration, stating that “time is ripe for Indian private Universities to take a lead and work closely with the government for research and training.”
