The meteoric rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has put the spotlight firmly on the BCCI, with growing calls to fast-track the 15-year-old sensation into the Indian senior team, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal also believes he should be the youngest to debut. After a string of explosive performances in IPL 2026, including a breathtaking 78 off just 26 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Rajasthan Royals prodigy has captured the imagination of fans and experts alike. His fearless batting and consistency have now sparked a serious debate, is India ready to hand him a debut at just 15?Sooryavanshi’s performances this season have been nothing short of extraordinary. The teenager has not only dominated bowling attacks but has done so with remarkable maturity, often taking games away in the powerplay itself. His rapid rise to the top of the run charts, earning the Orange Cap, reflects both his consistency and impact. India has an upcoming T20I series against Ireland and the buzz around Sooryavanshi has reportedly reached the top levels of Indian cricket administration. If selected, he could become India’s youngest-ever international debutant, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16 years and 205 days.Impressed by the youngster’s performances, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal stated that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi deserves to become India’s youngest-ever debutant.“What an amazing batting display by Vaibhav Suryavanshi this @IPL 2026 season. This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India @BCCI as the youngest given his performances,” Dhumal wrote.“It’s rare you get a chance to pick up someone so talented and sooooo young too. Certainly deserves his name to be recorded as the youngest debutant for India,” he added.Under ICC rules, players must be at least 15 to play international cricket, Vaibhav turned 15 this year on March 27 which makes him eligible to play in India’s senior men’s team. His played exceptional knock in U-19 final where he smashed 175 off 80 balls in the final. With India’s T20 calendar and Asian games in Japan scheduled for late 2026 offers great opportunities to test new players, the conversation around his debut is only set to grow louder.
