Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run in men’s tennis by defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Madrid Open title on Sunday. The world No. 1 cruised to a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory and created history by becoming the first player ever to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles. The Italian star looked completely in control throughout the final and did not allow Zverev a single break point during the match. Sinner has now beaten the German nine straight times in ATP meetings and has lost only two sets across his incredible run of titles, which includes wins in Paris last year and Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and Madrid in 2026.After the victory, Sinner said the achievement was the result of years of effort, discipline and sacrifice. He admitted that staying at the top requires constant hard work and understands that difficult periods are also a natural part of sport.“I think there is a lot of work behind it. A lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. Obviously, it means a lot to me, seeing these results. At some point, results are going to be down, which is normal,” Sinner said as quoted by the ATP website. The 24-year-old also spoke about the importance of confidence and having the right people around him. He said he remains focused on improving every day in training and credited his team for helping him maintain his high standards.“I’m very happy that I’ve continued to believe in myself. I’m showing up every day, at every practice session, trying to put in the right work with the right discipline. To do so, you need to have the right team behind you, which I have. I’m very happy about me, but also the team, and this means a lot to all of us,” said Sinner.
