'One of the most iconic and versatile voices’: PM Modi condoles death of Asha Bhosle

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed condolences on the passing of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who died at the age of 92 in Mumbai.In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known. Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world. Be it her soulful melodies or vibrant compositions, her voice carried timeless brilliance. I’ll always cherish the interactions I’ve had with her.”“My condolences to her family, admirers and music lovers. She will continue to inspire generations and her songs will forever echo in people’s lives,” he added.Asha Bhosle’s son Anand Bhosle shared the news of her demise, saying, “She passed away today. Those who wish to pay their last respects can visit her residence tomorrow at 11 am. The last rites will be performed tomorrow at 4 pm at Shivaji Park.”Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most celebrated singing icons, died due to multiple organ failure, according to doctors treating her.“She passed away due to multi organ failure a few minutes ago,” Dr Pratit Samdani told PTI.The singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday evening due to a chest infection and exhaustion, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle said in a post.The last rites of the veteran singer will be held on Monday with full state honours at Shivaji Park.Bhosle, whose career spanned several decades, began her musical journey in 1943 and went on to become one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, and was among the last of the living legends of the Indian film music industry.
