Abhishek looked in complete control, dismantling both pace and spin with ease. Neither Nitish Rana’s off-spin nor Lungi Ngidi’s variations troubled him as he smashed 10 sixes and 10 fours. His ability to adjust his strokeplay, especially against Ngidi’s slower deliveries, stood out as he repeatedly found gaps and cleared boundaries with precision.
Despite Travis Head not being at his fluent best, the duo stitched together a solid 97-run opening stand. The momentum only accelerated when skipper Ishan Kishan joined in, scoring a quick 25 off 13 balls as the pair added 79 runs in just under six overs. That partnership laid the perfect platform for a late surge.
In the death overs, Heinrich Klaasen provided the finishing touches with a blistering 37* off 13 balls, ensuring SRH crossed the 240-mark with ease.
Delhi’s bowling strategy came under serious scrutiny. Opting to open with part-time spin backfired badly as Rana was hammered for 55 runs in his four overs, including multiple sixes by left-handers. Even captain Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were underutilised, raising questions over tactical decisions by the coaching staff led by Hemang Badani.
SRH raced to 67 in the Powerplay, but the real damage came in the middle overs, where DC conceded a staggering 116 runs. Abhishek’s 47-ball century, despite being slightly slower by his standards, came at a strike rate above 200 and powered SRH to a total that looked nearly impossible to chase.
