Not the record RCB wanted: Sai Sudharsan's century leaves defending champions with unwanted IPL record

Royal Challengers Bengaluru made an unwanted IPL record on Friday after Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan scored a century against them at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2026 match.With Sudharsan’s hundred, RCB became the team to concede the most individual centuries in IPL history.Most individual centuries conceded by a team in IPL:

  • 15 – RCB
  • 14 – Kolkata Knight Riders
  • 14 – Mumbai Indians
  • 11 – Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad
  • 10 – Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings

Sudharsan returned to form with a 57-ball century, his third in the IPL, and his first of the 2026 season. Opening the innings with captain Shubman Gill, he built a 128-run stand for the first wicket after RCB chose to bowl first.His innings gave Gujarat a strong base for a big score.Sudharsan also entered the IPL record books on Friday by becoming the fastest batter to complete 2,000 runs in the tournament.The GT opener reached the milestone in just 47 innings, going past Chris Gayle, who had taken 48 innings to get to 2,000 IPL runs.Sudharsan came into the match needing 72 runs to break the record. With this knock, he took his overall tally beyond 2,000 runs.Batting first, Gujarat Titans finished on 205/5 in 20 overs, with RCB bowlers managing to control things better in the death overs after Sudharsan’s hundred.Earlier, Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl against Gujarat Titans in their IPL clash here on Friday.English batter Jacob Bethell is set for his first match of the season after being picked in place of an injured Phil Salt in the only change to the lineup for RCB.Shubman Gil-led GT made a couple of changes, handing a debut to Windies pace bowling allrounder Jason Holder while Manav Suthar also returned to the XI.
