In 2026, the candidates include Swapna Barman of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dinesh Sarkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Tushar Kanti Roy of the Congress. In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the constituency was won by Khageswar Roy of the BJP, who defeated his nearest rival from the TMC by an extremely narrow margin of approximately 1,400 votes, making Rajganj one of the closest contests in the district and highlighting a sharply divided electorate. The constituency is predominantly rural, with agriculture, small-scale trade, and tea garden-linked livelihoods forming the backbone of the local economy. Its proximity to Siliguri and position along important transit routes give it both economic and political relevance in north Bengal. Key issues centre on rural development and economic stability, with agricultural concerns including irrigation, crop pricing, and flood protection taking priority, alongside infrastructure gaps such as rural roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply, and electricity reliability. The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Jalpaiguri district recorded a voter turnout of 94.76%.
