Bookie allegedly shot dead by Khalistani shooters in Canada; gang links under probe

NEW DELHI: A man was fatally shot in the lobby of a busy office building in Surrey’s Newton neighborhood on Monday afternoon, an incident that authorities believe was a targeted execution. Sources said that the role of pro-Khalistan shooters with Indian links was being investigated. The deceased was identified by his alias — Sam Canada — and was a bookie by profession.Surrey police responded to reports of gunfire at 13049 76th Avenue, a complex housing several businesses including a learning center and an insurance company. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds; despite immediate medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since taken over the case, noting that while the motive remains under investigation, the shooting appears to have the hallmarks of a gang-related hit.Shortly after the killing, a facebook post in the name of Rohit Godara, a fugitive gangster, claimed responsibility for the murder. Godara identified the victim as a “close associate” and “main handler” for his rivals, further alleging that the individual was involved in cricket match-fixing and illegal betting operations within Canada. The post, which featured a long list of gang-related hashtags, issued a chilling warning that “the list is ready” and that anyone assisting their enemies would be targeted next. While police have not yet officially confirmed the authenticity of the post or the victim’s identity, the incident has raised significant concerns regarding the escalation of international gang violence on Canadian soil.
