NEW DELHI: The announcement of India A squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka triggered a wave of praise on Thursday, with Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka leading the tributes for teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Badoni.The BCCI named Tilak Varma captain of the 15-member squad for the June one-day tri-series involving India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. The matches will be played in Dambulla, followed by two multi-day games against Sri Lanka A in Galle.

Goenka’s post puts spotlight on Sooryavanshi

Soon after the squad was announced, Goenka took to social media to celebrate the selection of Sooryavanshi and Badoni, highlighting the teenager’s meteoric rise.“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s selection for the India A squad should be celebrated for many reasons, the biggest one being how far this young man has come in such a short time. From his IPL debut last year to scoring 175 in the U19 World Cup final and being named Player of the Tournament, the country has been watching with awe,” Goenka wrote.He added: “In just a year, he has shown incredible talent, fearlessness and the hunger to keep getting better. Delighted to also see Ayush Badoni in the squad. Congratulations to both. Make India proud.”Young stars rewardedAt just 15, Sooryavanshi has become one of the brightest young names in the domestic circuit since breaking into the IPL with Rajasthan Royals. His aggressive batting and performances at youth level made him one of the standout picks in the squad.Badoni, meanwhile, has been a consistent performer for Lucknow Super Giants and earns another opportunity to push for senior national selection.The squad also includes Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Anshul Kamboj, underlining the selectors’ emphasis on grooming the next generation ahead of a busy international cycle.
