NEW DELHI: Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already shown enough promise to succeed at the highest level, according to veteran umpire and referee Virender Sharma, who believes the teenager’s performances in the IPL are a strong indicator of what lies ahead.Sharma, who has officiated in international and domestic cricket across formats, including Tests, ODIs, T20Is and first-class matches, described Sooryavanshi as an “amazing talent” and praised the youngster’s natural ability, strength and hand-eye coordination. “Is amazing talent. Whatever I have seen him during the last few IPLs, it’s amazing. I mean he’s got so good strength in his arms and all. Good eyes, good hand eye coordination, good for India that I’m looking forward to see him for, I mean for two, three years more then I can say anything about his progress,” Sharma said.Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the most exciting young cricketers in the country, earning widespread attention with his fearless batting and ability to take on experienced bowlers. The veteran believes that performing consistently in the IPL, where players face some of the world’s best bowlers and operate under immense pressure, is one of the strongest indicators of future success at the international level.Asked whether the youngster could replicate his IPL success on the international stage, Sharma had little doubt.“Absolutely. If you see IPL is the most challenging tournament in the world. So if he’s performing in IPL, it means that he’s got the capability, he’s got the ability to score runs in front of, you know, many foreign players, many foreign bowlers. So if he is successful in IPL, definitely he will do some wonder for India in the international match,” he said.Sooryavanshi earned his maiden call-up after a record-breaking IPL 2026 season. He finished the IPL 2026 as the leading run-scorer, scoring 776 runs, including one century and five fifties at a stunning strike rate of 237.30.
