Another disappointing outing for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the teenage batting sensation once again failed to convert a promising start into a substantial score in the ongoing Tri-Nation Series.Representing India A against Sri Lanka A in the fourth match of the tournament, the 15-year-old looked in fine touch early on after Sri Lanka A won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sooryavanshi raced to 21 off just 14 balls, striking three fours and a six, before throwing away his wicket while attempting another attacking shot. The dismissal came courtesy of Sahan Arachchige, who lured the youngster into a drive outside off stump. The ball turned away slightly, taking the outside edge and looping towards point, where Wanuja Sahan completed a well-judged catch. In match 1 vs Sri Lanka A on 9 June 2026 he made his India A debut and with an aggressive start, smashed three boundaries against Mohamed Shiraz and Chamika Karunaratne. However, his stay lasted only 12 deliveries. Attempting to loft the ball over the infield, he failed to get the required elevation, allowing Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige to pull off a stunning diving catch. In match 2 vs Afghanistan A on 11 June 2026, after a modest score in the opener, Sooryavanshi bounced back with an entertaining knock of 44 off 22 balls. Batting at a strike rate of 200, he hammered nine boundaries and looked set for a half-century before falling to Abdullah Ahmadzai. The young opener was caught behind by wicketkeeper Ishaq Rahimi. A Familiar Pattern EmergingAcross the tournament, Sooryavanshi has displayed the fearless strokeplay. However, scores of 14, 44 and 21 underline a growing pattern, quick starts filled with boundaries but no significant conversion.
