Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar

NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Monday questioned the Delhi Police over alleged restrictions on people joining the ongoing protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG paper leak fiasco. Targeting the police, he also asked whether Aadhaar cards are also demanded from people attending the BJP’s political rallies.Dipke, who is leading the protest demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleged that police personnel were “asking for Aadhaar cards” from people seeking to participate in the protest. The demonstration entered its third day on Monday, with protesters continuing their sit-in at Jantar Mantar.Training his guns on the Delhi Police, Dipke shared a video on X and wrote: “Why does the Delhi Police need Aadhaar cards from people who want to join a protest? Do people need a visa to come to Jantar Mantar? Since when did an Aadhaar card become mandatory to participate in a protest? Do they also ask for Aadhaar cards at BJP’s political rallies?”“Police is using Aadhaar card as an excuse to turn people away from Jantar Mantar,” he added further.Earlier in the day, Dipke also called for the immediate restoration of water supply at the protest site. Dipke questioned the authorities over the lack of basic facilities for demonstrators, saying even essential amenities were not being provided at the venue.Writing on X, Dipke appealed to authorities, saying: “I request the authorities to immediately restore water supply to the restrooms at Jantar Mantar.”“For the second consecutive there’s no water supply at the restrooms,” he added. At the protest site, volunteers had organised a langar and were serving lassi to demonstrators. Slippers, metal plates and a few suitcases were seen scattered around after participants spent another night at Jantar Mantar.Earlier on Sunday, Dipke and his supporters refused to vacate the protest site despite police informing them that permission for the demonstration had expired at 5 pm on Saturday.
