Sri Lanka Women 17/0 in 2.2 Overs | Sri Lanka vs Ireland Women Live Score, Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: Chamari Athapaththu looks to keep Lanka’s World Cup dream alive

Sri Lanka vs Ireland Women Live Score, Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: For all practical purposes, Sri Lanka and Ireland are playing for pride when they meet in Bristol in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Ireland have already been eliminated from semifinal contention after losing their first three matches, while Sri Lanka’s hopes hang by a thread following a damaging defeat to West Indies.

The spotlight heading into the match remains firmly on Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, whose emotional post-match remarks after the West Indies loss reflected the pain of another World Cup campaign slipping away. Having represented Sri Lanka for nearly 18 years, Athapaththu admitted that failing to guide her country to a World Cup semifinal remains one of the biggest disappointments of her career despite her numerous personal achievements.

Sri Lanka’s tournament has been a story of inconsistency. A heavy defeat to England severely dented their net run rate before an impressive win over New Zealand revived hopes. However, being bowled out for just 98 against West Indies pushed them to the brink of elimination. While the bowlers have shown signs of recovery since the England defeat, the batting unit continues to struggle. Nilakshika Silva has been one of the few bright spots, but Sri Lanka need contributions from the entire batting order if they are to keep their slim hopes alive.

Ireland’s campaign has also been marked by batting difficulties, yet their performances suggest they are closer to competing with top teams than the results indicate. After a disappointing start against Scotland, they pushed both England and New Zealand hard, including a narrow four-run defeat in their previous outing. Those performances have provided encouragement despite their early exit.

The conditions in Bristol could add another challenge, with temperatures expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius. Historically, spinners have enjoyed success at the venue, a factor both teams will consider carefully.

With qualification unlikely for either side, the contest offers one final opportunity to salvage pride, build confidence and end the tournament on a positive note.
