Abishek Porel faces arrest after Calcutta HC order in rape case; police told to seize devices

The Calcutta High Court has directed police to arrest Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel in connection with a rape case and seize his electronic devices to prevent the alleged circulation of sensitive material related to the complainant. According to a report from The Indian Express, the court also asked police to continue efforts to trace and apprehend him, as he has not yet been arrested.Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya, in an order dated July 14, said police should continue trying to arrest the accused and recover electronic devices that may contain material linked to the case.The order stated, “It is disclosed in the communication dated 6th July, 2026 that one pen drive/storage device is seized from the petitioner…and it is believed that certain materials are stored therein… It appears that accused persons…are required to be apprehended for seizure of electronic devices lying with them so that data stored therein cannot be shared with others… “Communication dated 6th July, 2026 discloses steps taken by the concerned police authorities for apprehending…[the accused] but fact remains…[they] are yet to be apprehended. Concerned police authorities are directed to continue with their endeavour to apprehend respondent nos.6 & 7 [accused] and to make seizure of devices so obnoxious data stored therein shall not be further disseminated.”An FIR was registered last month at Mogra Police Station. The complainant has accused Porel of establishing a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage, recording their intimate moments, and later threatening her. The case also includes charges of criminal intimidation and other offences.According to the complaint, the two first came into contact in 2023 before meeting in person. The woman has alleged that Porel forcibly established physical relations with her and later continued to threaten her through phone calls, an associate’s Instagram account and another mobile number. The allegations have not been proven in court, and the investigation is ongoing.
