Infosys co-founder, Aadhaar architect: Who is Nandan Nilekani, set to lead high-powered exam reforms task force

NEW DELHI: Continuing his announcements on examination reforms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the government has constituted a high-powered task force to be led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.Also Read: PM Modi returns with message to students, announces Nandan Nilekani-led task force on exam reforms“HIGH-POWERED TASK FORCE on examination reforms under the leadership of Shri Nandan Nilekani constituted,” PM Modi said in a video message on X, a day after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical platform, called off its 37-day-long agitation following the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET (UG) question paper leak.Led by CJP, thousands of students had been on an indefinite sit-in in Delhi since June 21, demanding the resignation or removal of Pradhan and broader reforms in the education sector.

Meanwhile, joining Nilekani on the task force are former Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chairman S Somanath, former Intelligence Bureau (IB) director Tapan Deka, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras director V Kamakoti, former education secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.Also Read: Ex-Isro chief, IIT director & more – Who is on Nandan Nilekani-led NTA exam reforms panelWho is Nandan NilekaniNilekani is the co-founder and chairman of Bengaluru-headquartered IT giant Infosys. He also served as the founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the body that issues Aadhaar cards, with the rank of a Cabinet minister in the Congress-led central government from 2009 to 2014.In January 2023, he was appointed as the co-chair of the “G20 Task Force on Digital Public Infrastructure for Economic Transformation, Financial Inclusion, and Development.”Born in Bengaluru, Nilekani, 71, graduated from IIT Bombay in 1978. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, in 2006. Time magazine named him among the world’s 100 most influential people in 2006 and 2009, and included him in its 2024 list of the 100 Most Influential People in AI.Nilekani has also authored or co-authored three books.
