NEW DELHI: India added more medals and strengthened its campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Day 6, thanks to a historic silver from Gulveer Singh, another podium finish in weightlifting, and a strong showing in boxing.Gulveer was the standout performer, becoming the first Indian ever to win a medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games. The Army runner clocked 27:49.78 and stayed with the leaders throughout before finishing second behind Australia’s Ky Robinson with a strong final-lap sprint.Harjinder Kaur also impressed by winning silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event with a career-best total of 227kg (101kg snatch and 126kg clean and jerk). She also broke the Commonwealth Games snatch record twice and improved on the bronze medal she won at Birmingham 2022.India’s boxers continued their fine run as Mandengbam Jadumani Singh (55kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Priya Ghanghas (60kg) reached the semifinals, guaranteeing at least bronze medals. Priya recovered after losing the opening round of her quarterfinal to stay in the hunt for gold. However, Parveen Hooda and Kapil Pokhariya were knocked out in the quarterfinals.

Mixed results elsewhere

Vishal TK qualified for the men’s 400m semifinals, while Rajesh Ramesh and high jumper Pooja Singh missed out. Weightlifter Nirupama Devi Seram registered no result after failing all her clean and jerk attempts. Swimmer Srihari Nataraj narrowly missed the 100m backstroke final, while Sajan Prakash failed to advance in the 50m butterfly. In para swimming, Karthik Budigina and Ali Imam finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the S13 50m freestyle final. India also won its men’s pairs bowls match, while Nayanmoni Saikia lost in the women’s singles.At the end of Day 6, India were ninth in the medal standings with 12 medals, including two gold, seven silver and three bronze, while Australia remained on top with 80 medals.
