Who is Subhadeep Ghosh? Meet Team India's new fielding coach after T Dilip's exit

NEW DELHI: Team India will have a new face in its support staff as Subhadeep Ghosh takes over as the fielding coach, replacing T Dilip. The BCCI has decided against extending Dilip’s contract after it ended following India’s white-ball tour of England.Subhadeep’s first assignment with the senior men’s team will be India’s two-Test series in Sri Lanka in August.

Who is Subhadeep Ghosh?

Subhadeep Ghosh, who has been appointed as India’s new fielding coach after Dilip’s tenure came to an end, is a former domestic cricketer from Assam. Born in Digboi, Assam, in 1968, he played as a middle-order right-handed batter and an off-spinner.During his playing career, he represented Assam and Railways in domestic cricket.Ghosh featured in 17 First-Class matches and 17 List A games, scoring 316 and 307 runs respectively. He made his debut in both formats during the 1994-95 season.He played his last First-Class match in 2004 and ended his List A career in 2005.After retiring as a player, Ghosh moved into coaching and became part of India’s cricket development structure.He has been associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for the last six to seven years and worked during Rahul Dravid’s time at the NCA.Over the years, Ghosh has gained experience by working with various Indian teams across different age groups.Ghosh served as the fielding coach of the Indian women’s team during their tour of Australia in 2021.

He has also worked with India A and the India Under-19 team, including during the 2024 Under-19 World Cup campaign in South Africa.In the IPL, Ghosh was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders support staff in 2014, when the franchise won its second title.He later worked as the fielding coach of Delhi Capitals.
