The expansion also triggered discontent among some Congress MLAs who were left out. Yashavantarayagouda V Patil and Belur Gopalakrishna resigned as MLAs ahead of the swearing-in after not finding a place in the Cabinet.Shivakumar urged disappointed legislators to remain patient, saying it was not possible to accommodate everyone at once and promising opportunities in the future. The Congress high command also approved new appointments to key legislative posts, including GS Patil as assembly Speaker and AS Ponnanna as deputy Speaker.
