NEW DELHI: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal was discharged from hospital on Friday, a day after he was attacked by an assailant armed with a “kirpan” at a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra. The former Punjab deputy chief minister emerged from the hospital with his arm in a sling, flanked by supporters. Speaking to the media, he said he was “not afraid” in his first reaction to the attack.“Their mission is to take control of the situation in Punjab and disturb the peace, which, as president of the Akali Dal, I will never allow,” Sukhbir Singh Badal told reporters, apparently referring to those he suspects of being behind the attack.

He also sought to draw a link between the earlier attack on him at Amritsar’s Golden Temple in December 2024 and the latest incident.“They attacked me in the holiest places… first at the Golden Temple and the second time here. I’ve always said that one who has the blessings of Guru Sahab can never be harmed, no matter how hard they try. Everything is in His hands,” the SAD president added.
