NEW DELHI: A 46-year-old woman was killed by a train while trying to save her 20-year-old son, who had allegedly attempted to die by suicide after she refused to give him money to buy liquor, police said on Friday.The incident took place at the Indira Mill railway crossing in Bhadohi’s Kotwali area late Thursday evening.The woman, identified as Shiv Kumari, died at the spot. Her son, Vishal Rajbhar, was injured and was initially admitted to the district hospital before being referred to the BHU Trauma Centre in Varanasi, police said.
Son rushed towards railway track after argument
According to Kotwali SHO Shailesh Kumar Rai, Kumari, a resident of Chakbhuindhar village, had gone to a private nursing home in the city to meet her elder daughter, Pushpa Rajbhar, who had recently given birth to a boy. Vishal accompanied her.Police said Vishal had already consumed alcohol when he asked his mother for money at the nursing home. After she refused, an argument broke out between the two.Vishal then threatened to jump in front of a train and rushed out of the nursing home, with his mother following him.

Mother pushed son away but was hit by train
Quoting eyewitnesses, SHO Rai said Vishal stood on the railway track as a train approached.Kumari reached the spot and pushed her son away from the tracks, but was herself hit by the train.She died on the spot, while Vishal sustained injuries in the incident, police said.After being informed, relatives of the deceased reached the spot. Police said many of them were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and officers had to persuade them to return home, Rai said.
