CBSE denies 'data breach' despite repeated cyber attacks for past 3 days; files complaint

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday denied any “data breach” claims after it alleged “repeated cyber attacks for the past 3 days” on its online portal. It filed a complaint with the Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of Delhi Police.“The portal, launched on 2nd June 2026 to facilitate services such as verification and re-evaluation of answer scripts for candidates who had appeared in the XII Board Examination, was subjected to repeated and coordinated cyber attacks over the past three days. The attacks involved large volumes of malicious traffic originating from multiple IP addresses within and outside the country,” CBSE said in its complaint.“It is emphasized that despite these malicious attempts, CBSE’s systems and databases remain secure and uncompromised. No data breach or unauthorized access has been detected,” it added. The preliminary investigations by the authorities confirmed the same that there were “no evidence of a data breach within the CBSE’s systems during the attack”, ANI reported citing Delhi Police sources. The CBSE has come under scrutiny after several Class 12 students alleged that the scanned answer sheets made available by the board did not appear to be written in their handwriting, sparking concerns over possible discrepancies in the Online Scanned Marksheet (OSM) system. Amid the controversy, the cabinet secretariat on Tuesday announced the appointment of a one-member committee to examine the CBSE’s procurement process for services related to the OSM system.
