Ravi Shankar to head Lok Sabha privileges panel

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has constituted the committee of privileges, a key panel of the House which is tasked with looking into complaints of breach of privilege against a member and can even recommend expulsion.BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad will head the 15-member committee, which has eight members from NDA and the remaining from the opposition. Manish Tewari and Manickam Tagore of Congress, Kalyan Banerjee of TMC and T R Baalu of DMK, besides BJP’s Brijmohan Agrawal and Jagdambika Pal are among its members.It is up to the Speaker to decide which breach of privilege notice should be sent to the committee. BJP’s Nishikant Dubey had filed a complaint against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for allegedly trying to destabilise the country. Birla is yet to take a call on this.
