SRINGAR: Ladakh lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Saturday lifted regulations that barred govt employees in lower-qualified positions from applying for graduate-level posts in the Union Territory.Earlier, a candidate selected for a lower-qualification govt job was required to submit an affidavit declaring that they were only a Class 10 or Class 12 pass. Consequently, such candidates were rendered ineligible for future recruitment to many graduate-level posts.Terming the embargo “unjustified” and “restrictive,” Saxena said that imposing limits on maximum qualifications, which effectively barred candidates from future employment, was “contrary to the fundamental right to seek appropriate employment.”This decision will benefit thousands of youths holding posts such as orderlies and multi-tasking staff (MTS). The restrictive provision had also discouraged many youths from applying for such lower-qualification posts due to fears of limited career progression in the future.“It is the responsibility of the administration to ensure equal opportunities for all sections of society, irrespective of their educational qualifications,” the L-G said.Earlier on Thursday, Saxena deregulated the hospitality sector, freeing it from outdated rules and bureaucratic interference to improve ease of doing business in the cold desert region.
