Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living marks 45 years; Karnataka governor, Union MoS attend celebrations

The Art of Living’s International Center in Bengaluru hosted senior political leaders, spiritual figures and dignitaries as part of its ongoing 45-year celebrations honouring founder Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the organisation’s humanitarian initiatives. Among the guests were Karnataka governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and Union minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth, who attended a special satsang and meditation programme at the newly inaugurated Dhyan Mandir. Addressing the gathering, Governor Gehlot said, “Through love and knowledge, hatred and violence can be overcome. This message of Gurudev ji is being transformed into action and results through The Art of Living.” He also highlighted the organisation’s work in areas including education, river rejuvenation, chemical-free farming, ethics in business, disaster relief and conflict resolution.

Meanwhile, union minister of state Sanjay Seth praised Gurudev’s efforts in making meditation and wellness practices more accessible. “People used to think meditation was done in caves and the Himalayas, but you have taken meditation to every home,” he said.

The celebrations mark 45 years of The Art of Living and coincide with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar turning 70 on May 13. The organisation said the events have drawn policymakers, faith leaders, industry representatives and artists from India and abroad.

During the programme, Gurudev launched Psychosocial Peacebuilding: A Guide into the Heart of Sustainable Peace, a book by peacekeeping specialist Dr Katrien Hertog focusing on sustainable peace-building practices. The event also featured a folk music performance by Rajasthani singer Swaroop Khan. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dhyan Mandir at the ashram and launched several nationwide service initiatives linked to education, healthcare, environmental conservation and sustainable development.
